Odisha Chandrabhaga Beach


Chandrabhaga Beach is one of the most attractive beach of Odisha and also finest site along the eastern coast of India. It is also famous for its sun rise views as well as Chandrabhaga mela. It is situated on the Bay of Bengal at the coastal village of Chandrabhaga at the distance 3km from Konark Sun Temple, 31 km away from Puri nearest airport and railway. People of Odisha visit Chandrabhaga Beach on Magha Saptami(called Tila saptami) or February and March day to take a holy dip in the confluence river Chandrabhaga and the Bay of Bengal and offer a special prayers, , which is seven day fair to the of honour Lord Surya. Pilgrimage and cultural activities offer activities like sun bathing, surfing, swimming, etc.

According to the legend, Chandrabhaga, the daughter of a sage, killed herself by drowning in the river to protect her chastity from the God Surya. It is believed that Lord Surya in repentance, blessed the river with medicinal properties and named it as ‘Chandrabhaga’. . It is believed that a dip in River Chandrabhaga can cure leprosy. Prince Shambha, the son of Lord Krishna, was cured of leprosy by Lord Surya on the river mouth of Chandrabhaga.
